Happy Holidays!

December 25, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Happy Holidays to everyone! This is always a really buys time around the PPP, and I have to say a very special thank you to all of our staff that make everything run so smoothly. So many daycares close for the dogs (the just let them out for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night), but we make it a regular day of play for all of our overnight dogs. Doing this requires our staff to give up more of their holiday, but we feel that it is better for the dogs to stay in routine and not in a cage. So again, a big thanks to all of our crew who are working extra hard taking care of the hotel guests today!

I also want to thank all of our customers. I really feel that we have the greatest customers around!!

As many of you know, I am from the Chicago area. I thought I would leave you with a Chicago TV tradition. Every Christmas, WGN would play the Hardrock, Coco and Joe cartoon. Thanks to youtube, It is below :)

Have a great holiday, and thanks so much for being one of our customers!

iPhone Update

December 20, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

I was all a twitter when I saw the new version of Pooch Vision in my update list.

We just released the latest version of “Pooch Vision” which is our app for the iPhone.  This being the 4th version, we think is is the best yet.  We have made it possible to pay for doggy daycare and soon you will be able to check your pooch out before you even walk into our building (we are waiting on an update to our software for this and have been pushing the company for this feature for 2 years).  We are all about making life easy for you, but also connecting you to your pooch.  The whole purpose for the iPhone app is to allow you to watch your dog while they are playing at doggy daycare.  Webcams provide a great sense of security and let you know how we operate.  You can also read our blog, make reservations, and keep up on the latest dog events in Minneapolis.

In January we will be doing some remodeling in the 2 big dog rooms, and we will be adding more webcams, so watching your pooch will be even more fun!  Many daycares have contacted me asking “why would you have an iPhone app and webcams”… My response has always been “why the heck not”… Our app might not be as cool as the Starbucks app where you can pay at register by letting them scan your phone, but we are getting closer and closer to that!  We are still one of the few dog daycares in the country that have their own iPhone app which is a free download.

Those that don’t have an iPhone, we also have “Pooch Vision” available for the droid and blackberry.

Have a great night!

Group Nap Times

by Keith | Comments Off
dog daycare nap time in minneapolis, mn

All the dogs in the Ruff House are napping, except for Schatzie!

I still remember the first week that we opened (almost 4 years ago) and I remember how we tried to do “nap time” like all the other dog daycares in the area did.    We would put all the dogs in cages for 2 hours.  In theory they would lay down and nap, but honestly it does not happen.  We tied it for a month and it was nothing but non-stop barking everyday.  We started thinking and wondering if we can do things different, and guess what… We did!  So we started our group nap times, where the gigs just lay down in the play areas and take a nap.  It is so much less stressful on the dogs and on our staff.  Log onto our webcams around 1pm everyday and you will see what I am talking about.

Starting in January, we are really excited to do some more remodeling (I love to change and update things all the time).  We are all pretty excited about it.  The final details are still being worked out, but once everything is finalized we will give you all the details.

Have a good day!

Food for the Pet Project in MinneapolisLast night Tami, our groomer and owner of Muddy Paws Cheesecake Co. put me to work at her 19th annual Holiday Bazaar. They were collecting toys for STEP and dog food for The Pet Project.  They filled 3 HUGE boxes with goodies!!  Lenore (one of our PPP staff members) and I were working at the door taking in all of the donations and it was great to see so many people giving back!!  What a great event!  I went home stuffed full of some of the worlds best cheesecake!

Have a good night!

Groupon and other offers

October 3, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Jack takes a nap after playing fetch in the Canine Cove today.

This past Saturday, I had a very intersting conversation with a customer at Bubbly Paws.  They had asked if I knew of any good dog daycares in the area. Naturally, I told him about Pampered Pooch Playground and the services and setup we have.  He was very impressed, since he stopped into another place and was not very impressed.  I told he he could stop in anytime and get a true feel for the place.  He then asked if we were going to offer a Groupon or Crowd Cut anytime soon. Then I told him why we don’t do these types of deals simply because we can’t control the types of dogs that come in.  If someone buys a %50 Groupon we have to honor it, regardless of how the dog does in daycare. I know of a daycare that this happened to, and they got a bunch of dogs that were very aggressive in daycare and this is not a risk that we are willing to take.  He was very impressed by this, and stopped in today to check it out.

I personally love Groupon’s and we have done them at the dog wash (since the customer is the one bathing), but for a daycare were you don’t know what type of dog will be coming and how well it will be have is kinda freaky to me.  As always we have to watch out for the safety of the entire group of dogs.

So there you have it… Why we don’t do deals at the PPP.

Hope you have a good night!

Kodi

September 18, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Kodi the Husky in Minneapolis,mnI still remember the first time that Kodi came to doggy daycare…. He was about 17 weeks old and just the smallest little thing. Then he started growing and quickly became the tallest dog in the Canine Cove… Now he walks in the lobby and the first thing he does is stretches because he knows he has a big day of playing ahead of him in the Ruff House.  Kodi is such a joy to have at doggy daycare!

Have a good day!

Dakota

August 28, 2011 by Keith | 1 Comment

Dakota at petropawlis doggy daycareDakota the golden has been coming to doggy daycare almost every day for the past 7 months (I am guessing, it might have been longer).  I still remember the day that Dakota’s mom called to set up her evaluation and she said she wanted Dakota to come to doggy daycare everyday.  I thought she was kidding about coming everyday, but now I know why Dakota comes everyday! She is one energetic golden retriever!  She is always so excited to walk in the front door and cant wait to see all of her friends.  She really loves the outside area!!

Have a good night.

Grooming area update

August 14, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Lola the yellow lab boarding at doggy daycareIt has been 5 days since the remodeling started on our grooming and food prep area and things are going great! All of the framing of the new walls are up, the electrical is done, and some of the new floor has been installed. With any construction there is always some inconvience, but it is pretty minor.  Today I stopped in and put a bunch of the new cabinets together and Lola the yellow lab was my helper!  Lola is a regular face at doggy daycare, and she has been spending the weekend with us!  She is a great helper!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
