Roxy at Doggy Daycare in Minneapolis

Roxy supervising the Doggie Den dogs.

Yesterday I had so much fun at doggy daycare and it involved the 2 ladies in my life (Trycia and Roxy).  We were all in the Doggie Den supervising some of the daycare dogs playing and Roxy was helping us.  Those of you that know her from the lobby know that she like the calm mellow dogs that come in (not the super excited ones that can’t wait to get into the play areas).  Roxy does not normally go in the rooms everyday, but her and Trycia are a package deal and they always have to be together.  So Roxy was hanging out and helping us supervise everyone.  Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Spotlight: Patrycia Miller

February 14, 2012 by Birgitta | Comments Off

Keith and Patrycia Miller are the owners of the Pampered Pooch Playground (PPP) and Bubbly Paws. Between the two of them, Keith is slightly more public, doing interviews for the local news and writing for the PPP and Bubbly Paws blogs, to name a couple things. He wanted to make sure to give his wife Trycia a moment in the spotlight.

We see a lot of Keith at PPP/Bubbly Paws and online. Would you describe what you do for Pampered Pooch Playground and Bubbly Paws?
Keith and I are both at the daycare five days a week, dealing with the daily operations at PPP. You can usually find me there during the morning and the afternoon. Ellen, our manager, usually handles the evenings. I am there answering emails, the phone, and managing the daily operations. I love taking pictures of the dogs when I remember to bring my camera :)

At Bubbly Paws, I handle ordering all of the retail items we sell. I have so much fun picking out the latest and greatest in doggy fashions! Of course, when I am not physically at Bubbly Paws or at PPP, there is always something that can be done. I spend a lot of time at home working on scheduling, payroll, and other tasks that keep our businesses running. And don’t forget my most important job is keeping Keith in line each day. Ha!

What is your favorite part of your job?
The dogs! The dogs at PPP are always so happy and loving! It’s great to get to know each one of them and their personalities. Our staff and customers are also great, Roxy and Patryciaand I love getting the chance to see them each day. I also love the fact that I get to hang out with my favorite dog, Roxy, and favorite person, Keith, each day.

I know it’s not always easy as a small business owner to disconnect from work. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I love being active. You can find me at Core Power Yoga, Lifetime Fitness, Lori Harder Fitness or walking/running around the lakes. I also enjoy shooting pictures and learning about photography. One of my new favorite obsessions is Pinterest (an online pinboard to organize and share things you love). I love trying all of the recipes I find on there.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I asked Keith to share how he felt about working with his wife. “Trycia is the organizational part of our businesses and one of the most organized and detail-oriented persons I know. Getting to spend time together doing what you love is priceless. We are able to play on each others strengths to grow the business. As our business grows, so does our relationship.”

Not every married couple can happily work and play together, but it seems these two have figured out how to make it work—and have fun doing it. Their mutual respect and love are obvious. And, of course, they share in their love for Roxy, who inspired them to open Pampered Pooch Playground.

Thanksgiving Fun

November 25, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

I want to say a special “Thank You”, to all of our staff who worked on thanksgiving. The holidays are always the hardest days for us to staff, because I really want to give everyone the day off so they can spend it with their family. Most daycares and boarding places only let the dogs out for 2 hours in the morning and at night on holidays so they don’t have to staff it…. We staff it as a regular day for all the dogs staying over, meaning that they were out playing all day long. It obviously takes much more man power to staff like this, but for quality care it is worth it. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. Roxy had lots of turkey, and was stuffed yesterday!

Roxy Does Agility

November 18, 2011 by Keith | 1 Comment

roxy at dog agility classThis past weekend, we were at an event and we introduced Roxy to agility equipment and she got so excited to do it.  So I decided that we should sign her up for a class.  Last night was the first night, and wow she had so much fun!  We worked on jumping, running through the tunnel and jumping/laying on the platform.  Roxy really picked up everything really fast!

The best part of the class was Roxy run through the tunnel.  She loves doing it (I think it is because she knows there is a treat at the end).

Hope you have a great weekend!

Even Roxy needs doggy daycare!

roxy at the apple store in uptown minneapolis

When not greeting people in the doggy daycare lobby, Roxy loves going on adventures... One of her favorite places in the Apple Store in Uptown, Minneapolis.

Every morning Trycia asks Roxy of she wants to “go to work”…  Most of the time she gets really excited, but sometimes she decides that she wants to sleep in.  Today was one of the days that Roxy wanted to “sleep in”.  After I left the daycare, I stopped at the dog wash and headed home.  We ate dinner and took Roxy on a long walk and she still has TONS of energy!  All night she has been running around the house wanting to play.  It is super cute, but I also know why everyone loves bringing their pooch to doggy daycare.  Roxy does not go in the play areas often, but she gets so tired from greeting everyone in the lobby!  Just thought I would share a cute story!

Have a good night!

Can you see Roxy

August 9, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Roxy plays hide and seekToday the construction began on our new and improved grooming and food prep area.  While all this work is being completed, it might take un an extra minute or 2 to run run the dogs to the lobby because there will be a few days when we can’t walk through the room and we will have to walk through our training room.   This will be a great upgrade and all of our staff are excited for it!

This afternoon Trycia and I left the doggy daycare a little early because we had to go pick put new cabinets and counter tops.  It was lots of fun designing a new area.  When we got home, we ate dinner in our backyard and Roxy decided to play hide and seek.  Can you find her?

Have a good night!

Lucky Mutt Photo Shoot

August 3, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Tonight we had a photo shoot with Becky from Lucky Mutt Photography for an upcoming project she is working on.  I know we always say it, but Roxy really loves to take pictures and loves anyone that takes pictures of her!  We walked around  and Roxy would just sit and pose.  The only issue is we were by a stream, and Roxy really wanted to walk in the water.  Obviously, the picture I took on my iPhone is nothing compared to the work that Becky does, but I can try to be a photographer.

Hope everyone has a good night!

Better than a doggy treadmill

July 31, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

This weekend, Roxy was hanging out with her BFF, Bindi, who was our first dog to come to Doggy Daycare!  4 years ago when we opened, Bindi and Roxy played at doggy daycare everyday and quickly became best friends and LOVE hanging out together.  This weekend we took them to the Minnehaha Creek and let them have some fun in the water.  It was funny to watch the dogs walk “up stream”.  I think Roxy was getting annoyed because she could not lay in the water without getting pulled away.  After their “river play date”, both of them girls went to Bubbly Paws for a bath!

Roxy goes to the Cabin

June 6, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Roxy at the cabinThis weekend we were in Wisconsin visiting Trycia’s family and Roxy got to go with!  Roxy really is the perfect car dog, she just sleeps and every now and then she will paw you for attention.  Sunday we wen to Trycia’s borhter-in-law’s cabin and yes… Roxy came with!  Roxy has never been much of a swimmer, and we attempted to get her to swim, but she would just rather lay in the water on in the shade on the boat.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and you were able to enjoy the great weather with your pooch!

Why people need doggy daycare

Roxy and Zoe tired after doggy daycare

Roxy and Zoe tired after their day at doggy daycare!

Our dog Roxy is 5 and people always wonder why she is so mellow.  It is because she is out of the crazy puppy stage, but she can have her moments when she is wild and crazy!  She gets really tired by just hanging out in the lobby at the doggy daycare!  This week we are dog sitting Roxy’s niece, who is 8 months old.  Zoe has so much energy and she is always trying to play with Roxy.  Monday, we took her to doggy daycare and it was so nice to have a super tired puppy at night!  I think Roxy really LOVED having a quiet puppy because that meant she got all of the attention.  Wow!  Sometimes I forget how important doggy daycare is for puppies :)

Have a great day!
