The Outdoor Oops… Well Kinda!

Max the doodle was one of the first doggy daycare dogs to see the new outside play area.

Max the doodle was one of the first doggy daycare dogs to see the new outside play area.

2 years ago we were the first dog daycare to use recycled turf in our outside play area and we LOVE it.  Here are the problems with the other types of surfaces commonly used at doggy daycare:

Pea Sized Gravel – The most common but rocks fly everywhere when dogs run and many dog love to eat the rocks.  Rocks are very dusty and dogs go home really dirty.

Wood chips – They hold smell (think how many dogs go to the bathroom on them everyday).  You can’t clean them because cleaning solution soaks into the wood chips.  Plus they smell really bad when they are wet.

Regular grass – Pretty obvious why this is not a good option.. You can never clean it, dogs get dirty and muddy anytime there is rain or you play with the hose and grass never grows because dogs are always running on it.

We LOVE our recycled turf, it comes from an old sports stadium and fits in well with us trying to be a “green” doggy daycare.  The turf hold up great and we just wanted to freshen up the look of what we had outside.  When the guys were almost done installing the turf, they realized someone had mis-measured, so we did not have enough to do the whole area.  So there is a small corner that is not finished yet.  I guess everyone learned the lesson of Measure 10 times and order 1 time :)  Not big deal, it should be 100% finished by the end of the week.  I was out there when the dogs first saw the new turf today and they LOVED it.  I am so glad we went with this option 2 years ago because I could not imagine sending home really muddy, or super dirty dogs.

Have a good night.

Jack’s Last Day

Jack at doggy daycare

Jack brought treats for all the daycare dogs on his last day!

Today was a sad day for all of us at Pampered Pooch Playground.  Jack the Boston Terrier had his last day of doggy daycare before he moved to Indianapolis!  We always hate to see our dogs move away and Jack was no exception.  When Jack’s mom dropped him off for doggy daycare, she broke the news to us.  We quickly started talking about how Jack was one of our first doggy daycare dogs 4 years ago when we opened!  Oh Jack, we are gaining to miss his crazy “noises” he makes when he plays with things and his little wiggle when he comes through the front door.

Hope everyone has a good night!

How Clean is it?? Cowboy Clean!!

Cowboy the Rottweiler Puppy

Today was a big day when it comes to our construction.  The majority of the work in Waggers Way has been completed and they will be starting in the Ruff House tomorrow.  So we will have all of the big dogs in Waggers Way starting tomorrow and I spent 5 hours this afternoon putting everything back together in the room.  The construction guys cleaned everything when they were done, but I wanted to go through with the shop vac and make sure they picked up everything.  We have a Rottweiler puppy named Cowboy, who is known to eat just about everything at home and wanted to make sure he would not find anything on the floor.  So the entire time I was cleaning, I kept thinking to my self “we have to Cowboy proof everything”.  We are so very excited with how everything has been going.  The new webcams are up and running in waggers way, you can see about 90% of the whole room and you should be able to see all the dogs.  I am excited to see how the dogs react to the new digs tomorrow.

Have a great night, and I know we always say this, but thanks for putting up with our construction :)

Remodeling – Day 4

Roxy at Doggy Daycare in Minneapolis

Roxy shows off the remodeling progress of our Doggy Daycare room

Wow, Lots has changed in Waggers Way doggy daycare room in the past few days.  Sunday, the final touches were finished on the floor, and this morning we were able to walk on it.  At 7:30 this morning, the painting started.  Wow, does it look fresh and new! Tomorrow, the work on the ceiling starts.  We took Roxy in the room and she really liked the floor.  When we first opened, rubber flooring was the industry standard and the best that was out there.  After almost 4 years, the standards have changed, and rubber flooring is a great option, but not the best (in my opinion) which is why we have decided to update it.  We are putting down a rubberized epoxy which is 5 times easier to clean and the dogs really love it! m This room looks so empty with everything moved out of it.  Crazy!! If all goes well this doggy daycare room should be up and running by Friday, then we will start the Ruff House.

Thanks again for being so understanding with us during this time, construction is always hard, but we try to make it as easy on everyone as possible.

Bye Bye Dakota

September 29, 2011 by Keith | 1 Comment

The hardest part about being so involved with the doggy daycare side of the business is saying goodbye to our dogs and customers when they move away.  I remember talking to Dakota’s mom before she started coming to doggy daycare, she was new to the Minneapolis area and wanted to bring Dakota everyday.  We normally try to talk people out of daycare everyday, because of the stress it places on the dogs, but Dakota’s mom said she can handle it! After Dakota’s first few days, we started joking about how Dakota can handle daycare and LOVES it!!  Dakota has been coming almost everyday for the past year and she was a huge part of the PPP family.  She pulled in everyday because she was so excited to see all of her friends.  Dakota’s mom is now moving down south and we are really going to miss Dakota and her mom at daycare everyday!

Before I left today, Dakota got a huge hug, belly scratch and a kiss!

We are going to miss that bundle of energy!

Have a good night.

Grooming Area Update

August 22, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Trycia's Sisters dog LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the tennis ball.

I am verry happy to report that the remodeling of our grooming area is back on track.  Today they finished most of the plumbing, and 95% of the drywall has been hung.  Remodeling our grooming and prep areas has been quite an undertaking and you never realize how much you use that room until it is not available!  Today was the first time that I actually saw the end….  We can’t wait to show off our new grooming and prep areas.  Some of the construction guys keep joking about “wanting to take a nap in the play areas with the dogs during our group nap times”.  I told them they can do that when they are all done!

This past weekend, we went to visit Trycia’s family in Wisconsin.  On Saturday, we took Roman (trycia’s sisters dog) to his doggy daycare and it was so exciting to be on the other side of the counter.  We saw how excited Roman was when we pulled into the parking lot, and how much he loved walking through the front door!  From this reaction, you  know he loves going there, and that they treat him well.  The same goes for when I am working at the PPP… I love watching the dogs come in through the front door so excited and ready to play.

Hope everyone has a great night!

Better than a doggy treadmill

July 31, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

This weekend, Roxy was hanging out with her BFF, Bindi, who was our first dog to come to Doggy Daycare!  4 years ago when we opened, Bindi and Roxy played at doggy daycare everyday and quickly became best friends and LOVE hanging out together.  This weekend we took them to the Minnehaha Creek and let them have some fun in the water.  It was funny to watch the dogs walk “up stream”.  I think Roxy was getting annoyed because she could not lay in the water without getting pulled away.  After their “river play date”, both of them girls went to Bubbly Paws for a bath!

Guess Phrase

July 26, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

george the beagleHave you heard of the iPhone app Guess Phrase?  You might be wondering what this cool iPhone app has to do with our doggy daycare?  George the beagles dad designed it, so I decided to download it today and give it a try.  It is a pretty sweet app.  Give it a try if you have an iPhone.  George comes to doggy daycare almost every day so that his dad can get some programming done.

Have a great night.

Vet in training

July 24, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

vet in training at Pampered Pooch PlaygroundThis weekend, Trycia’s family came to visit and her  sister really wants to be a vet when she grows up.  So we took all of the kids to the doggy daycare over the weekend to meet some of the dogs.  One of the favorites was Cowboy, the rottweiler puppy.  Trycia’s sister sat on the floor and Cowboy quickly jumped into her lap and started giving sloppy puppy kisses!

Cowboy just turned 15 weeks old and really loves coming to doggy daycare.  He has quickly become best friends with a few of the puppies that hang out in Waggers Way.

I hope everyone had a great weekend

Roman comes to visit

July 10, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Roman at doggy daycareThis weekend Trycia’s sister was in town with her family and they brought their 2 year old black lab, Roman.  Roman is a regular face at a doggy daycare in Wisconsin, and this weekend he checked out Pampered Pooch Playground.  He had so much fun playing with all of the high energy dogs in the Ruff House.  He gives the PPP 2 paws up!  Roman might be the most ball obcessed lab that I have ever met!

Today, we took their family to Bubbly Paws to give roman a bath, and made a super cute video.
