The Calm before the Storm

Dog Daycare DogsToday we spent most of the day making sure everything is ready for the Thanksgiving weekend.  Our hotel is full and we went through today to make sure everything was in place for all of the dogs checking in.  If you are looking for boarding between now and January 1st make sure to make a reservation ASAP, since we fill up fast.

Are you on our email list?  Did you get the email with our Black Friday deals?  If not, they are on our daycare page.  These deals are good on Friday, only.

In the picture, are Duncan (mastiff) and Mila (Australian Sheppard mix).  They took some time out from playing to rest next to each other.

Have a good night.

No dog too big!

November 14, 2009 by Keith | Comments Off

25Trycia and I decided to go to her family’s house in Wisconsin for the weekend, since we will not be able to make it there for Thanksgiving because we will be so busy with the Hotel and boarding dogs. Trycia’s mom asked if we could bring some of the Topline Canine shampoo and conditioner with us, so we stopped by the daycare real quickly to pick it up.  I have said it before, but this shampoo is simply the best, and it is made by one of our customers.  When we stopped in on Friday Morning,  our staff was all excited because, Starbuck the St Bernard needed a bath and they were wondering how to get him in the tub. He is a great dog, just HUGE and HEAVY. We worked it all out and Starbuck got a bath!  Oh, if you are wondering if Starbuck is named after Starbucks Coffee, he is.  His parents moved here from Seattle!  One final note, the picture of Starbuck is about a year old when he was a Puppy.
Have a great weekend!

Fritz – Small but Mighty

October 24, 2009 by Keith | Comments Off

fritzFritz hangs out with the smaller dogs, but the only thing small about him is his size!  Fritz really thinks he is a big dog and it is not uncommon to see him playing with the big guys.

Friday we had some work going on for our new room, and Fritz along with many of the small guys loved watching what was going on.  It almost seemed like the construction guys we a halftime show for the dogs.

Have a great weekend!

Frankie Plays Soccer

October 9, 2009 by Keith | 1 Comment

Frankie is a regular face at doggy daycare, but for the past few night he has been boarding with us in the hotel.  Frankie’s parents told us he was a great soccer player, so we wanted to see how good he really was.  We played soccer with him for about 30 minutes, and he did not get tired of it!

What does Doggy Daycare have to do with Winemaking?

September 11, 2009 by Keith | Comments Off

france-wine-dog-bdrAs I have said in previous blog posts this week, Trycia and I are out of town in Napa and Sonoma, CA.  Yesterday one our customers set up a really cool wine tasting for us with the winemaker of a very small vineyard where you have to know the owner to visit.  It is a small family business, and his 7 year old daughter presses some of the grapes.  We were sitting there and talking about doggy daycare, and he said how his dog goes to a daycare in Napa, CA and how much fun that place is.  He asked if we were a franchise, and i said NO WAY!  He was so thankful!  He said he loves the smaller places that are inddependent and how you really do get better service from them.  How many times have you called your cell phone company’s 1-800 number and gotten mad at them for bad service?  I was thinking how cool it is that this winemaker that makes AMAZING wine is so down to earth and easy to talk with.   There was no pressure to buy wine, but we did buy lots of it!  I would like to think this is somewhat the same way that we run the daycare.  Trycia and I are always around and know the dogs and their personalities.  So I like to think that we are not just owners that sign paychecks and hire employees, but that we are active with the dogs, employees and customers each day, and have a very hands on role in the daycare.   I just called a daycare in San Francisco to set up a time for Trycia and I to take a tour today and I asked for the owner.  The girl that picked up the phone hand no clue how to reach the owner or what their name was.  Strange!!

OK, I will now get off my soap box, but hopefully you understand what I am talking about.

We will be returning tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see all the dogs.  I really do miss them and all of our wonderful customers!

MIA!

September 9, 2009 by Keith | Comments Off

miaMia is one the regular faces at the Pampered Pooch Playground Hotel.  Mia is a Leonberger, and gets along great with the larger dogs and the smaller dogs.  She is pretty laid back and will play for a few minutes and then watch everyone play.  Mia is more of a people person and loves to be with people.

Our vacation is going great and thanks to Roxy and Rowdy’s dad we have an awesome tour lined up.  Stand by for details on that.  Last fall when we were here we came across the Winery Dogs of Sonoma and Napa.  It is a great book, with amazing pictures.  We looked up Bernese Mountain Dog, and the winery that had it was about an hour and a half away, so we decided not to visit.  I just checked in with Ash at the daycare and everything is running nice and smooth.  I knew this would be the case, but it just makes me feel batter.  You can call me an over protective parent.

Have a great night.

Small and Fluffy

September 7, 2009 by Keith | 2 Comments

8125_131739956851_23604646851_3001200_5268688_nThis was a full weekend at the Pampered Pooch Playground Hotel and all the dogs did great!  One of the smaller dogs that has been staying with us for the past few nights is Poomba (pomeranian), who has a great time playing with all of the smaller dogs.  Poomba really enjoys sitting outside and catching the sun.  I went in with the smaller dogs today, and Poomba loves to greet you the minute you walk in the room.

I have mentioned before, and I will say it again, I feel that we have an amazing staff.  Trycia and I are going to be going out of town this week and know that the daycare will be in great hands.  We did not take a vacation over the summer because we were so busy with the dogs,  and every year right after labor day we like to go away to celebrate our anniversary.  The past 2 years we have gone to Napa Valley, and this year we will be going to Sonoma Valley.  Don’t worry, there will still be blogs posts as I can never get too far away from the PPP.  Last year when we visited San Francisco for a day, we found the Barkology line of clothing, so who knows what we will come back with for the daycare.  We always visit a daycare while we are gone to get new ideas.

Have a great short work week.

Way to go Amazon.com!

August 26, 2009 by Keith | Comments Off

Amazon.comThe other day I blogged about a recent purchase from Amazon.com and how their shipping policy was the craziest thing I had ever seen.  I ordered 12 (2 packs) of AA Batteries and each one was shipped in a different box with lots of bubble packing.  Each box was about 30 times the size of the batteries.  Why could they not put all of the items into one box.  Oh well, the UPS guy and I had a great laugh when I opened it up to show him what was in the box.

Sorry that this post is not about the dogs.  Today I left early to pick up our new floor scrubber to clean the floors each night. We have one, but we purchased it used and it is about to break, so I drove 1.5 hours away and brought it back to our daycare.  Our cleaning staff will be so excited.

Have a good night.
