Chicago Trip

June 13, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

ginger the Rottweiler puppyThe past 2 days I took a quick trip home to Chicago to visit my family and my Brothers new Rottweiler puppy.  Ginger is 12 weeks old and about to start doggy daycare at my friends doggy daycare (some of PPP is modeled after this location).  I went to lunch with my friend who owns it and we were “talking shop” and wow, there is so much in common between the two places!

Now I am back in time to watch my Chicago White Sox take on the Twins!

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Yep… We have AC!

June 7, 2011 by Keith | 1 Comment

Jack loves to play with the hose outside!

This morning I was talking with one of our customers and they wanted to make sure that our play areas had air conditioning… The last daycare that they went to did not, and she talked about how hot, sticky and muggy it would get inside their building.  I could not imagine what it would be like without the air conditioning!  Whoa!  Yes, we have AC and it is cranking full blast to keep the play areas a cool 70 degrees!! When it is so hot outside, we still take the dogs out, but for short periods of time (not longer than 10 minutes) because we are concerned about them keeping cool.

Have a great day and we will see you soon!

Roxy goes to the Cabin

June 6, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Roxy at the cabinThis weekend we were in Wisconsin visiting Trycia’s family and Roxy got to go with!  Roxy really is the perfect car dog, she just sleeps and every now and then she will paw you for attention.  Sunday we wen to Trycia’s borhter-in-law’s cabin and yes… Roxy came with!  Roxy has never been much of a swimmer, and we attempted to get her to swim, but she would just rather lay in the water on in the shade on the boat.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and you were able to enjoy the great weather with your pooch!

Wine and Wag

June 2, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

It was a slow start for Eloise.. She had a bit of a Wine and Wag hangover!

Last night we were at Wine and Wag which was Downtown in Minneapolis and put on by the K9-Connection.  What a great time and event!  It was so much fun to see so many of the PPP dogs out and having a great time!  So many of our pet industry friends helped to sponsor this fundraiser for Homeward Bound rescue, and we were located right next to Bone Adventure.  About 1/2 way through the night we started having some fun taking pictures of Eloise who belongs to one of the Bone Adventure employees.

Make sure to keep watching our events page to stay updated on all the coolest dog events in the Twin Cities.

Have a great day!

The Newest PPP Family Member

May 31, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Jamie, one of our staff members (of over 2 years) just adopted a new puppy from Metropolitan Mutts!  Today was her first day at doggy daycare and she had so much fun!  She is such a sweet girl that loves attention.  Jamie is still thinking of names, once she comes up with one, we will let you know what it is!

This past weekend our dog hotel was packed with dogs boarding for the holiday weekend!  Everyone had such a great time playing outside (and inside when the weather was bad).

Have a great night!

A big meeting today!

May 25, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Gracie goes to the groomerToday I was able to sneak out of the doggy daycare for about an hour for a very important meeting.  For the past 4 months, we have been working hard with a few of the other premier doggy daycares in the area to form a group to help set standards of care and service for daycares in the Twin Cities.  We believe that working together we can help educate people on what makes a quality doggy daycare, and what you should ask and look for when you select one.  In the next week, we will be launching the website that will be filled with lots of information for dog parents.  We will talk more about this soon, but I left the meeting very excited about the future and what we have planned.

While I was out at the meeting, Gracie was getting groomed by Tami!  Gracie belongs to Sarah from Sarah Beth Photography! I brought Gracie home with me tonight because Trycia and Sarah were doing a boutique crawl with friends in Uptown.  Gracie and Roxy spent the night fighting for my attention.  It was cute!

Have a good day!

Apple Store and Drinks with Roxy

May 19, 2011 by Keith | Comments Off

Roxy out for drinks in Minneapolis, MNTonight there was a dog friendly event at the Apple Store in Minneapolis (uptown).  Many of you know how much I love Apple, and all the employees were loving our  iPhone app, Pooch Vision (we were the first daycare and still one of the few that has their own app).  The Apple Store is always dog friendly, but it was pretty cool to see 30 dogs all behaved and having fun there!  Our friends from Sidewalk Dog gave a preview of their new website, and Sarah Beth Photography talked about how she edits photos on a Mac.

After we left this great event, Trycia and I walked a few feet down the street and decided to stop and get a drink.  What I really love about Minneapolis is how dog friendly it is!  So here we are sitting on the patio drinking with Roxy next to us (well sometimes she decided it was a good idea to lay in the sidewalk!!).

Now I need to apologize for not blogging much this week!  I have been battling a pretty nasty sinus infection and just wanted to take it easy!!

Have a good night!

How to remove a tick

May 17, 2011 by Keith | 1 Comment

We have been in contact with several vets in the area and have confirmed that it is a very early season for ticks.  A few of our customers have asked me what to do if they find a tick on their dog, and I have put together a list of instructions below.  As a reminder, we require all dogs to be on a flea and tick preventative from April-October.

Tick Removal

Many methods have been tried to remove ticks, many of which are not recommended. Applying a recently extinguished match or even a still lit match to the body of the tick will NOT cause the tick to back out and fall off. The mouthparts only let go when the tick has completed the meal. Also, applying fingernail polish will suffocate the tick but will not cause the tick to fall off.

The best recommendation to remove a tick is to use a tweezers or commercially available tick removal device and pull the tick off. Do not touch the tick since diseases can be transmitted. Use a tissue or paper towel to protect your fingers. Consider wearing gloves when removing a tick.

With a tweezers or tick removal device, grab the tick as close to the head as possible. With steady, gentle pressure, pull the tick out of the skin. Frequently, pieces of skin may come off with the tick. Do not twist the tick – pull straight up and out.

If the head of the tick remains in the skin, try to grab it and remove as much as possible. If you are unable to remove the entire head, don’t fret. This is not life threatening. Your pet’s immune system will try to dislodge the head by creating a site of infection or even a small abscess. Wash your hands.
Usually no additional therapy is needed, but if you are concerned, contact your family veterinarian. There are surgical instruments that can be used to remove the remaining part of the tick.
